POETRY

Sanctuary

May the bird find my opened palm,

Feathered breast thrumming fast.

May its claws tear crayon-rubbed,

Vein webbed,

Paper skin.

May furry beings burrow deep

Between my sandy toes.

May their breath mingle with damp,

Hungry,

Hollowed earth.

May seeds blossom along my nails,

Sharp shells birthing green heads.

May they unfurl among my

Moss veiled

Skeleton.

May the wind arc my weathered spine,

Shoulders hunched over ribs.

May my wide-ringed bones strengthen,

Brittle

As they are.
