Begum

One step forward two steps back Three bodies lay bloody

on an open track One had a gram, one had a knife

Reason enough to take a life Two steps forward three

steps back The groomed girl’s baby fades to black How

can I be judged for what I said when I was 15? You’ll ask

in your future trial They shoved it in your face you’ll say

You’ll still regret nothing to this day Because what is

sacrifice Getting nothing for paying a price Why would

you choose to sacrifice your greed? Shed your excess

to those crying out in need Sitting in a house worth a million

meals Ignoring the humility of a man who kneels Left out

by the process, left out in the rain Let me have another

chance, let me start again No. No excuses. No second

chances. No reruns. No Empathy. Rags to riches, riches

to riches. Success is a drug and society’s addicted Now

spin the wheel, hold on tight Pray you end up with a life,

not a fight.
